Elke Kiesewetter - My Art

Elke Kiesewetter was born 1955 in Germany.  She liked painting as a child already. But it took a long time until she started again to paint.
Life happened and she needed to raise her son and take care of rent, food and education. As a single mother, life was not easy at that time.
After a move to the German north, the province of “Schleswig Holstein”, her life improved and she felt “home” in the land beneath the 2 oceans.  Elke liked the picturesque landscape and fresh wind in the hair. After a friend gifted her a brand new set of artist paints, brushes and art she began to paint again and soon enjoyed the creating of pictures with her own hands again.
At the beach, 1999, North Germany
First, only in watercolour, she showcased the beauty of the north German landscapes, saw the beaches and countryside trough the eyes of an artist. After humble beginnings, she found peace and joy in her art and had the urge to evolve and wanted to learn more.
Because books were not enough for her hungry heart she some courses.
Pretty soon she had her first exhibitions in the 90s and started to sell a lot of her artwork.  Constantly evolving, she learned everything she could, tested her skills on different styles and materials and took several courses until an art teacher kicked her out of his course because she was better than her and feared getting his reputation hurt by his student. After the first shock, she laughed about this and sold one of her famous  pictures, “The Railway Bridge of Lindaunis.”

This picture is today on display in the “Art-Station”, the permanent gallery of the German Railroad in Hamburg, Germany,  showing the art of different artists from Germany showing railroad scenes from 1900 until today.
Beneath landscapes, she also added Flowers, plants and stills in her work, even created Christmas cards for a locale printing shop and drew the characters and scenes for a children's tale book from a German writer.

In 2005 her life changed dramatically because she moved to Canada to aid her parents after her youngest brother died unexpectedly.
Soon she found inspiration in the beauty of this new home, created new pictures in several styles, tried new techniques and finally found her own unique style. She plays with light and shadows and likes mostly a more abstract way of creating her art, sometimes over several months constantly shaping until she finds the right tune.

But the journey is not over, she tries always new ideas, and gets inspired by other artists or a bird that flies by.
Sometimes she sees whole paintings in the clouds…
You can follow her journey from simple landscapes over detailed realistic studies to her modern abstract in her
